The St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation is growing and currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team. These positions are assigned to a specific park or recreational facility that are located throughout St. Louis County. Laborer On Call These positions typically work 40 hours per week. Positions assigned to recreation facilities typically work 40 hours per week (including evenings and weekends) from September through March. Those assigned to parks typically work 40 hours per week (including some weekends) from April through October. There will be a starting salary of $15.19 per hour and there are no benefits provided. However, when available, vacancies for permanent jobs are posted and experience, training, and departmental work record are taken into consideration for promotion to these positions.Maintenance Worker I These positions are full time and provide benefits.There will be a starting salary of $15.86 per hour. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Laborer On CallCleans and performs maintenance of restrooms, shelters, picnic sites, athletic fields, trails, amphitheater, and other facilities.Mows and trims grounds.Performs trash removal and pick-up.Sets-up equipment and materials for programs and events.Breaks-down and cleans up after programs and events.Assists with pavement repairs and construction.Performs various construction related activities.Performs related work as required.Maintenance Worker IProvide maintenance support for and minor repairs of County owned facilities by: checking, cleaning and repairing gutters and down spouts; cleaning and sanitizing plumbing fixtures; repainting building and exterior trim and graffiti.Provide custodial care and cleaning of County facilities or other designated indoor and outdoor areas by: cleaning and maintaining offices, hallways, restrooms and public areas; cleaning and washing light fixtures; picking up and disposing of trash and hazardous wastes; emptying ash trays and trash in public areas; preparing and using routine cleaning solutions; setting up and breaking down chairs, tables, furniture and sound systems for special events.Perform routine painting and painting preparation tasks associated with the finishing of County facilities, property, and equipment by: taping trim and edging; painting letters and signs; sanding, priming, striping, and painting surfaces.Perform maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep of parks and recreation sites by: replacing or adding new sand or wood chips/mulch to playground areas; checking and performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs of drinking fountains; checking and repairing park signs/road signs; checking and repairing or replacing nets, wind screens, and tie-downs on tennis courts; checking, replacing and realigning bumper stops; cleaning catch basins; and reporting safety hazards, damaged structures and equipment.Perform care and propagation tasks of trees, shrubs, turf and plants by: cutting, removing and hauling away dead trees, tree stumps and shrubs; checking the condition of trees, turf and grounds; raking and manicuring grounds; planting trees, shrubs, and flowers; sowing grass and laying sod; spreading fertilizer or herbicides; and pruning or trimming trees, hedges, and shrubs.Provide routine maintenance and repairs of asphalt roadways and surfaces by: patching asphalt and crack sealing; repairing potholes; and sealing asphalt surfaces.Assist skilled plumbers in performing preventive maintenance, major repair work or installation of various plumbing systems and equipment (e.g., water drainage, gas lines).Set up and break down furniture arrangements and sound systems for special events.Provide maintenance support and repair for facilities by replacing burned out bulbs, filters, repainting building and exterior trim, and checking lubricating pumps.Perform related work as required
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.
